Packing fragile items doesn’t have to be stressful—or expensive. With the right technique, you can protect breakables using simple packing paper.
Step 1: Create Cushioning Bumpers
Lightly scrunch a sheet of packing paper into a loose ball (not too tight—think fluffy marshmallow, not a crumpled receipt).
Wrap another sheet around it to form a soft bumper.
Repeat until you have four bumpers for a medium-sized box.
Step 2: Line the Box for Protection
Place bumpers in the bottom of the box to create a cushioned base.
This keeps items from shifting—just like the foam mold they originally came in.
Step 3: Pack Items Vertically with Separation
Pack plates on their sides to minimize pressure—tests show they’re stronger this way, even though it seems to defy logic.
Pack glasses upright to prevent pressure on the rims and keep them from cracking under weight.
Place plates in the opposite direction of your bumpers to maintain even support and prevent pressure points.
Place a single sheet of paper between each item to prevent scratching. Keeping the items tight together will help prevent clanking.
Step 4: Add More Cushioning on Top
Place additional bumpers between layers and on top of the items for full coverage.
The goal: protection from every angle—because gravity is not your friend.
Why This Method Works
✔ More effective than bubble wrap – Keeps breakables from shifting.✔ Budget-friendly – Packing paper is cheaper than bubble wrap.✔ Simple & safe – No wrestling with plastic wrap that refuses to tear in a straight line.
